Trust-Based Ownership at DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness

Have you ever wished your Disney Vacation Club ownership was a little more flexible? DVC points already give timeshare owners plenty of vacation options. But now, DVC has taken that flexibility to the next level. Disney Vacation Development has introduced trust-based ownership with DVC cabins at Fort Wilderness. Not sure what that means? Here’s the rundown on how this affects resorts at Walt Disney World.

What Is Trust-Based Ownership?

Trust-based ownership is a practice where several timeshare resorts are grouped together into a trust. Owners can buy into the trust, giving them access to that specific group of resorts. Of course, the number of resorts featured in a plan can vary. However, Disney Vacation Club isn’t the first brand to dip their toes into trust-based ownership. Club Wyndham Access also gives its members a certificate that allows them to stay at a specific group of resorts.

Many of these trusts also come with the added benefit of allowing owners to have advanced membership priorities at all of the resorts within the trust instead of just one resort. In this way, buying into a trust is like having multiple home resorts all at once! So, you’ll be able to experience the best of the best DVC resorts with one ownership. This comes with additional flexibility. But in exchange, owners will likely be competing with more travelers hoping to reserve a certain time at a specific resort.

Trust-Based Ownership for Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

As of today, only the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are part of a trust, so it’s unclear at the moment how ownership at other resorts may be affected by this move. In fact, anyone who purchases a timeshare at DVC cabins at Fort Wilderness is unlikely to notice anything different for the time being. However, changes will likely become more apparent once other resorts are added to the trust. But for now, anything else would be speculation. So, you can rest easy knowing that while nothing tangible has changed with ownership quite yet, great additions are on the way!
