Disney’s Hall of Presidents to Welcome New Addition

The Hall of Presidents has given Walt Disney World guests a unique look at those who have held the highest office in the United States. Combining Disney’s famous audio animatronics with pieces of film, viewers get to witness speeches given by some of the most famous men in history.

This popular Disney World attraction has been around since 1971, receiving updates every few years as the Presidential roster grew. Located in Liberty Square at Disney’s Magic Kingdom park, the show has gotten audio recordings of every President since 1993 to use in the production. The show has been closed for several months to allow the Disney team time to update the content of the production and the theatre itself. “Whenever we refurbish one of our attractions, we take the opportunity to consider a broad range of enhancements. In this case, The Hall of Presidents is getting a new show, and a complete theater upgrade including a new sound system, lighting and high-definition projection system. The multi-screen viewing experience you may have seen in prior versions of the attraction is returning with an even wider vantage point of our country’s history.” according to a statement made on the official Disney parks blog. The update to the show will include the addition of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. The Disney blog went on to say that, “President Trump will have a speaking role in The Hall of Presidents, like every president since 1993. We have been working closely with the current White House — just as we have with previous administrations — and the president’s recording session has been scheduled. The attraction will re-open in late 2017.” The most recent posting on the Disney blog says the Hall of Presidents will reopen before Christmas of this year.

Beginning with a film that shows the history of the United States, viewers get a glimpse of the struggles and conflicts that forged America. The show celebrates America’s liberties and the progress that has been made in the country. Originally the Hall of Presidents show was mainly about the beginning of the country and the importance of the Constitution. A major revision to the show, which was done in 1993, changed the focus to the Civil War and the ethical issues America faced regarding slavery at the time. There is speculation whether this current renovation, the longest the attraction has seen since its opening, will bring about another major change in the focal point of the show.

One thing that hasn’t changed since the show’s opening is the use of Disney’s animatronics. Every American President throughout history is represented in the attraction with a robotic version of themselves. The Presidents move during the show with incredible life-like mannerisms, turning to talk to one another, nodding their heads, and acknowledging when their name is called during the show.1280px-Hall_of_Presidents_on_Election_Day.jpg
