Hilton Grand Vacations: Get to Know this Hilton Vacation Club

Hilton has been an innovator in the hospitality industry since the early 1900s. Today, that spirit of innovation lives on with the new Hilton vacation club: Hilton Grand Vacations. With a flexible points system and a variety of ways to augment your ownership, Hilton Grand Vacations is helping to move timesharing into the future. Meanwhile, it offers all the luxury, first-class service, and spectacular destinations that put the Hilton name on the map a century ago. Here’s everything you need to know about Hilton Grand Vacations!

What Is Hilton Grand Vacations (Formerly Hilton Grand Vacations Club)?

So, just what is Hilton Grand Vacations (formerly Hilton Grand Vacations Club)? Hilton Grand Vacations is the timeshare brand under Hilton Inc. and is also a publicly-traded company. Travelers that prefer to stay with Hilton on vacation can become HGV owners to enjoy all of the benefits of timeshare and guaranteed vacations for life. This Hilton vacation club offers a points-based system, so owners experience the ultimate flexibility and freedom within their ownership. This flexibility could be one of the reasons why you should buy Hilton Grand Vacations timeshares! Points can be used like vacation currency to make reservations at any one of the Hilton vacation club resort properties.

Hilton’s 170+ resorts run the gamut of vacation destinations, from tropical destinations like Barbados to urban getaways in New York City. International destinations include the romantic landscapes of Portugal to energizing resorts in Japan’s scenic countryside. Hilton has a location for every vacation style, so you’re sure to find the perfect getaway for you.

As a leader in the timeshare industry, Hilton Grand Vacations resorts offer exceptional amenities like game rooms, laundry facilities, on-site fine dining options, exercise rooms, and on-site spas. These offerings enrich owners’ vacation ownership experiences, making for unforgettable vacations. So, in addition to incredible destinations, Hilton provides all of the luxuries that you’d desire while vacationing.

What Are Hilton Grand Vacations Club Points?

Hilton, like almost all resort developers, uses a points system for timeshare owners. So, if you purchase a Hilton vacation club timeshare, your ownership is assigned a certain amount of points known as ClubPoints. The amount of ClubPoints your vacation ownership is worth depends on a number of factors. These can include the resort’s popularity, the season or week of the ownership, as well as the size and type of your unit. HGV members can save points from one year to the next or borrow from the following year. This gives owners the ultimate flexibility when it comes to planning their vacations.

Types of Points and Ownership Structures Available

When browsing Hilton Grand Vacations listings, you’ll come across a range of ownership types and annual point allotments to fit all kinds of vacation goals. Hilton owners generally receive an annual allocation of ClubPoints, which can vary widely—ranging from a few hundred points perfect for short getaways, up to several thousand points to cover longer or more luxurious stays. The number of points you hold each year is tied to a combination of factors, such as your specific resort, unit size, and season.

Ownership structures also cater to different preferences:

  • Deeded Ownership: This traditional form allows you to hold a deeded real estate interest, usually at a designated resort. It’s a long-term option that’s typically perpetual, passed down to heirs or sold on the resale market.
  • Right-To-Use (RTU): RTU contracts grant the right to use a vacation villa for a specific amount of years, after which the contract expires. This option can be ideal for owners looking for a more flexible or time-limited commitment.

Some listings may offer biennial usage (odd or even years only), while others are annual. Additionally, it’s possible to find contracts with “banked” points—unused points saved up from previous years, giving new buyers a head start on planning their vacations.

These diverse options ensure that whether you’re after the security of deeded ownership or the flexibility of RTU, Hilton Grand Vacations has a fit for your travel style.

Trade HGV Points on RCI

Hilton vacation club members also have the opportunity to join the world’s largest vacation exchange program, RCI. HGV points can also be traded for stays at resorts around the world through Hilton’s partnership with RCI. RCI allows owners to trade their timeshare weeks or points for stays at thousands of resorts worldwide. By depositing points onto RCI’s vacation exchange network, owners are able to exchange them for vacations at over 4,000 resorts. RCI’s exchange opportunities include nearly every vacation destination you can think of, from the Swiss Alps to Bali. This gives Hilton vacation club members even more flexibility when it comes to vacation planning. So, even if the timeshare you own is in Myrtle Beach, you’d have the ability to vacation in Maui by just trading your existing points!

Typical Prices and Maintenance Fees for Hilton Grand Vacations Timeshares

Curious about what it costs to become a Hilton Grand Vacations owner? Prices for Hilton vacation club points can vary widely based on the number of points, resort location, and type of ownership. However, browsing the resale market gives us a helpful glimpse at what buyers and sellers are seeing today.

For example, some owners list their points on the resale market for as low as a dollar if they are motivated for a new buyer to take over their ownership. This could be because they are no longer using it and are paying ongoing maintenance fees every year. However, generally an ownership that includes more points and a larger unit type will cost more than the smaller ones.

Maintenance fees are another key consideration and vary by property, season, and unit size. Annual dues can be as low as $400 for smaller packages or units and increase to over $1,800 annually for larger ownerships or luxury properties. These fees ensure you enjoy well-maintained accommodations, resort amenities, and the flexibility Hilton is known for.

If you’re thinking about purchasing Hilton Grand Vacations points, it’s a good idea to compare listings across different resorts and point sizes to find the best fit for your vacation style and budget. And remember, purchasing on the resale market can offer significant savings compared to buying directly from the developer.

Hilton’s New HGV Max Program

Hilton Grand Vacations recently implemented a brand new ownership program, HGV Max. This new ownership system gives Hilton vacation club owners more benefits and vacation options than ever before. Hilton Grand Vacations acquired Diamond Resorts in 2021 and Bluegreen Vacations in 2023, which means that Diamond and Bluegreen properties are available to Hilton owners. As of now, however, the only way for Hilton timeshare owners to book vacations at Diamond properties is by being an HGV Max owner.

There are currently two ways to become an HGV Max member. The first way is to buy a qualifying timeshare directly from Hilton after the start of the HGV Max program. Secondly, current Hilton vacation club members can pay a $7,000 initiation fee to enroll in the program. To find more information about HGV Max, you can read our recent blog post about the program.
